Description
It is the most active volcano in northern Chile, with an approximate record of 30 eruptions since the 19th century until the present days. It is a stratovolcano with 6 craters, with the central crater emitting large amounts of smoke that are possible to visualize almost every day.
The regular route to climb the volcano its situated 110 km southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, along the path that crosses the beautiful Lagoa Legía, located at 4,300 meters altitude, depending on the time of the year as the spring and summer, is inhabited by James Flamingos birds and also other birds.
ITINERARY
From the hotel to the base of the volcano (4.900mts), takes about 2 and a half hour by road. The ascent is through a well marked trail and when it gets 2 and a half kilometers from the main crater of the volcano (5,492m), do you can choose which one of the tops for climb by an alley of about 400 meters, which reaches 5,592 meters altitude.
The average climb time, depending on the physical conditions of each person, it takes about 2 at 3 hours.
