Description
This volcano, along with neighboring Miscanti (5.622 meters), are the main attractions of one of the most visited places of San Pedro, the Altiplanicas Lagoons, which can be seen from the top of this volcano. It´s one of the longest mountains for climb because it haves a strong slopes and high altitude. Requires a high physical condition.
It´s located 110 kilometers southeast of San Pedro, the road goes from San Pedro 2.460 meters to almost 4.300mts of altitude, which is the point where you start to walk. The road is in good condition except on the last 2 kilometers, where you will need to use the 4 × 4 vehicle. It takes 2 days to climb this mountain.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 It´s starts on the afternoon and a camping it made at 4.300 meters of altitude.
DAY 2 The walk will start at 3:00 am. The ascension route is on the west side of the volcano. The rise of 50º degrees, the weight of the backpack and equipment also the snow and ice will follow us to the top. The climb time is 13 hours.
The Miñiques Volcano is a mountain where you need acclimatization and high physical condition. This requires experience in hiking on steep terrain, snow and ice.
